New Blackboard System Requirements

We recently upgraded Blackboard. With that upgrade comes new system requirements.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Web browsers on mobile devices (such as smartphones and iPads) are not supported. Certain types of exams and interactive pages will not function correctly. You must use a laptop or desktop computer to successfully use all the Blackboard features.

Supported Web Browsers

Blackboard supports five primary browsers. Links to the vendor sites for the browsers are included below.

Browser Computer Browser Versions
Chrome 49+ Supported
Edge 20+ Supported
Firefox 48+ Supported
Internet Explorer 11+ (only on a Windows system) Compatible
Safari 9+ (Only on a Mac system) Supported

IMPORTANT NOTES:

Users have reported issues with the Internet Explorer web browser. Our recommended browser-of-choice is Firefox.

Students have reported issues with the Safari web browser when attempting to upload an assignment to Turnitin. The submission process hangs and the paper never submits. Also, instructors have reported issues with Turnitin’s Feedback Studio. Switching to Firefox or Chrome fixes these issues.

Supported Operating Systems

Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 10, Mac OS 10.11, Mac OS 10.12, Mac OS 10.13, Chrome OS.

For students using screen readers

We recommend that you use Firefox and Jaws on a Windows system. On a Mac use Safari and VoiceOver. Blackboard strives to make all its products as accessible as possible. JAWS 18 and 17 are used during accessibility testing of each Blackboard Learn release.
